Spring is almost here, so let’s review some care and cleaning tips for bedspreads, blankets, and duvets!

Duvet covers are a great investment. They protect spreads and down comforters from soil and wear, and increase the life of these expensive items. So use a duvet cover whenever possible.

Spreads and duvet covers absorb body oil, lipstick, make-up, spills, and soil from dirty hands. Many of these stains are “invisible” or hard to see, so don’t be fooled. If you used your covers, then they will be soiled!
Remove the duvet to inspect the cover, the spread, and the comforter, in bright light.
Take your duvet cover to your drycleaner and let them dry clean (and wash) the cover to restore and repair for it next season. The spread may need freshening, so take that in as well.
Blankets, quilts and “throws” absorb body oils and food particles, so they should also be inspected and cleaned at the end of each season.

Remember: Dust, odors, and airborne particles collect on upholstery, drapes, and rugs, so be sure to clean and care for these items as well. Drapes should be cleaned at least once every two years.
